Through the 80s, Salazar sang Hawaiian classics together with his band the Royal Hawaiian Band and performed at various venues in Waikiki in Hawaii and Japan. Jerry Byrd accepted Salazar as his student to study formal studies in the study of Hawaiian steel guitar. Then, she was awarded an entire grant through the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association. She was the only female Byrd graduate and has been dubbed Hawaii’s top female steel guitar player. Apart from Hawaii, Salazar has also played throughout Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia as well as the Americas. Since January, 2000 she was the first female to perform on tour in Hawaiian Slack Key Festival.
