Charles William Thomsen (born January 20th 1957) is a well-known American Republican politician who hails from his home state of the US State of Oregon. He is currently a member of the Oregon Senate and represents District 26 which covers the entirety of Hood River County and parts of eastern Multnomah County and northeastern Clackamas County.

The protest led an Thomsen’s Hood River constituents, Lara Dunn who filed an application for recall from his office on the 5th of March 2020. “Senator Chuck Thomsen broke his promise to represent us in the Legislature,” Dunn stated in her petition. “He did not show up to work and still received the tax-payer-funded salary and daily allowance. He needs to be reinstated and replaced by a person who is willing to show up to fight for the jobs of our fellow citizens and schools, our health care and the future of our country.” Thomsen’s opponents referred to remarks Thomsen had stated on Oregon Public Radio regarding his plans to travel to warmer weather in the event of a walkout and that he’d packed shorts and polo shirts.

On June 20th, 2019, the entire eleven Republican state senators from Oregon as well as Thomsen who was a senator, did not attend work on the Oregon State Capitol, instead retreating into hiding, with some even fleeing from the state. Their goal was to block an approval vote on a cap-and trade plan that will dramatically reduce greenhouse emissions by 2050 to fight climate change. The Senate holds 30 seats but one is in limbo because of a death. With out the Republican senators of the 18 Democratic state senators would not be able to attain a quorum of 20 for a vote.
