Ovidiu Petre is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on March 22, 1982 in Bucharest, Romania. Ovidiu Petre (nickname: “Sarma”/”Wire”), (born 22 March 1982 at Bucharest) has retired as a Romanian footballer. He is able to play in a variety of positions but is most often employed as to play a defensive midfielder. Many believe he is a genuine talent, but a number of injuries to his knees have hampered his career.

In August 2006, however the player signed a five-year contract in the club of Steaua Bucuresti for a fee of EUR1.000.000 which brought him back to his former coach Cosmin Olaroiu again. Petre made his debut with Steaua on the 9th of September, 2006 in the 1-0 win against FC Arges with 1-0. Petre made his debut goal with Steaua in a match against the former club, Poli Timisoara, in an impressive 3-1 win. In the 2007-08 season Petre scored two goals in a row in a match in a match with Pandurii Targu-Jiu in a 1-0 victory, and the other in the derby against CFR Cluj, which Steaua was victorious with a score of 3-1. After that match, the title for the championship was an option for Steaua losing 9 points behind the leaders, CFR Cluj. Steaua’s first score in UEFA Champions League was against FC Sevilla, even though the goal was scored by him. Steaua was defeated with a score of 1-2. On August 28, 2008, Italian club AC Torino was interested in his defensive midfielder. Steaua patron, Gigi Becali, has reduced the transfer price to EUR7,8 million. On the 21st of October, 2008, Becali recorded his second Champions League goal against Olympique Lyonnais.

On 18 June 2010, Petre signed a one-year renewable contract with Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia for $1.500.000 to be the last foreign player added to Walter Zenga’s squad. In his first match for Al-Nassr, Petre scored the winning goal in a 1–0 win over Najran.

After the contract with Al-Nassr ended, Petre took an offer to join Italian Serie B side Modena. It was confirmed that he would sign a one-year contract on 26 July 2011.

He was in 2003 when he was relegated to Galatasaray. The Turkish team was paid one million EUR for the midfielder. His Super Lig debut on 13 September 2003 with an 1-0 defeat against Konyaspor. He played four games for Galatasaray during the 2003-04 season in the UEFA Champions League. After nearly two seasons with Galatasaray, Petre did not prove his abilities and was transferred at the beginning in the season 2004/05 into FCU Politehnica Timisoara.

Petre started his professional career with FC National Bucharest during the 1999-2000 season. He made his debut for the team with a loss of 3-2 at Rapid Bucuresti on 22 April 2000. The initial two seasons with FC National did not brought the player many professional wins and he only made 10 appearances. In 2001-02, FC National were so close to winning the title. Petre was able to improve his performances and was an integral player for the team. The European Cups, Petre played 6 games with FC National in the UEFA Cup.
