Othon Mataragas is one of the most popular and richest Composer who was born on July 30, 1979 in Athens, Greece. OTHON, a.k.a. Othon Mataragas (born July 30 1979) is an London-based Greek pianist, composer and songwriter. He is also a DJ, producer, and promoter of clubs. He is most well- known for mixing classically inspired compositions with electronic music and experimental songwriting. Alongside his solo endeavors as a musician, he has also collaborated with notable artists like Wolfgang Tillmans, Marc Almond, David Tibet (of Current 93), Peter Christopherson (of The Throbbing Gristle, Coil & Psychic TV), Ron Athey, Ernesto Tomasini and Dan Hillier.
It was in 2012 that Othon was struck by a spiritual awakening following his first experience of psychoactive plant-medicine rituals in Brazi which included Ayahuasca. The experience changed his perspective on life and his perception of music. While he has written and performed music before, Othon has wished to draw attention to the difference between his work in 2012 and prior to it that year, which is now his ultimate starting point[4].
In 2014, Othon released his third album (or what he now considers as his first album) Pineal via Cherry Red Records/Strike Force Entertainment, after he raised money from a successful fundraising campaign (Indiegogo). Swinging from cinematic pop and fierce shamanic techno to jungle evoking downtempo and violin driven electronica (Music News), Pineal forms both a link to the past (Part 1), and a fresh post-2012 beginning (Part 2) It features performances by past collaborators Marc Almond and Ernesto Tomasini together with amazonian shamans Don Javier Shahuano & Jessica Ramirez Seopa and multiinstrumentalist Bird Radio[5]. Pineal, which includes original artwork and photography by Predrag Pajdic received numerous positive reviews, including a full page preview at The Guardian Guide.
Othon composed & produced the soundtrack for Against Nature, based on the book À Rebours by Joris-Karl Huysmans, after creating an overwhelmingly successful fundraising campaign with project collaborators Marc Almond and British writer Jeremy Reed, in 2015 *[5.] In the same year, SFE released his Cobra Coral EP featuring a remix of the eponymous track by German duo Boss Axis [6].
In October 2009, Othon performed the world premiere performance Boxer Coaster, the first piece composed by musicians wearing boxing gloves at the Pre Final Fest in Rome. The second album of Othon, Impermanence that features singing performances from Ernesto Tomasini, Marc Almond, Camille O’Sullivan and Othon as well as Justin Jones (from And Also the Trees) and the release of the guitar by SFE and Cherry Red Records in November of 2011. Impermanence received the acclaim of the most reputable Greek music site Postwave.gr as the best Greek album of the year. * 3 Othon was again in collaboration in 2011 with Ron Athey in 2011 for the large-scale performance ‘Gifts from the Spirit: Automatic Writing’ in which he performed in the influence of hypnosis wearing gloves. He also composed the music for Franko B’s latest performance work titled ‘Because of Love'(2012). Othon composed the music for the award-winning graphic novel The Tale of Brin & Bent and Minno Marylebone which was composed by Ravi Thornton and published by Jonathan Cape, Random House in 2012.

In 2005, while he was during his time at Trinity College, he meets Ernesto Tomasini with whom he began a continuous collaboration. Together as Othon & Tomasini they perform Othon’s music at theatres, concert halls, churches, and museums all over Europe. In the UK they played in places like venues like the Roundhouse, Leicester Square Theatre, Royal Exchange Theatre and National Portrait Gallery. The debut album of Othon, Digital Angel, which includes three vocalists, Almond, Tibet and Tomasini it was released towards the closing year 2008 via the Durtro Jnana label.
In the beginning, Almond is among the first artists to notice his talents, and others like David Tibet and Peter Christopherson as well as Othon is a collaborator on several projects. The year 2007 saw him appeared in several performances together with Current 93. Other notable collaborations include ones composed by music composer Stephen Montague (Sonic Swamp, made from Eye Music for the Colourscape Music Festival 2006.) Fashion artist Nasir Mazhar (London Fashion Week) and photographers Hector de Gregorio and performance artist Ron Athey with whom he was a part of the 2009 Napoli Teatro Festival Italia. He composes music to the soundtracks to films made by Bruce LaBruce (Otto; or, Up With Dead People), Derek Jarman (a new music set-up in The Angelic Conversation, played live at the GLBT Film Festival in Turin) and Jorg Buttgereit (new soundtrack for Nekromantik which was performed in live performance at the Pre Final Fest in Rome)[2[2.
In September 2014, Othon gave his debut as a DJ for the World Ayahuasca Conference closing party in Ibiza.[9] Othon felt very inspired by this new form of artistic expression and soon started playing at parties such as Kaos (Electrowerkz) and Sabajaq (Egg London). Othon’s DJ sets are creative and bold and have defined musically his own party night Papa Loko, created in 2015 with the aim to bring progressive spiritual concepts and high frequency dance music to the underground club scene of London[10]
