In his first two seasons in Copenhagen the Danish club, he was unable to make it into the first team regular, at first as an assistant to his former Norwegian national Andre Bergdolmo and later Danish international Niclas Jensen. In 2008, he was able to become the first choice for the left back spot for his team. This earned him an invitation for the Swedish national team. It was the first time in more than 18 months. His impressive performances also saw him being linked to two clubs, English team West Ham United and Italian club Genoa.
He has represented Sweden at U17 and U19 stages, Wendt made his senior Sweden debut in January 2007 during an international friendly match against Venezuela. Wendt was not selected for an opportunity to be part of Sweden’s Euro 2016 squad despite a good year in Bundesliga. Wendt was dismissed from Sweden’s national team in March of 2017 after having played for Sweden in a amount of 28.
