After a rather unassuming time that also saw an injury that was severe, Dertycia moved to Spain and first joined Cadiz CF where he garnered a large fan base. He was known as Mister Proper due to the hairless head he was sporting (due to the stress he experienced from his injury). But his best days was to be experienced at CD Tenerife: he signed in 1991 to replace for Rommel Fernandez, and became an important offensive player to The Canary Islands side under compatriot Jorge Valdano. Although he was never an undisputed starter he scored the number of La Liga goals in his first two seasons as well as being closely associated with Real Madrid’s championship loss in consecutive seasons in the final round in the final round, to FC Barcelona.

The following summer, Tiburon joined Italy’s ACF Fiorentina and was the ancestor of his compatriot Gabriel Batistuta. While with his Florentine team, Tiburon made an end of 1989-1990 UEFA Cup, playing alongside Roberto Baggio.

After playing with the Argentine under-20 side in 1983’s FIFA World Youth Championship, scoring a goal to help his country make it to the semifinals Dertycia was given his first invitation to the full team in 1984 in the direction of Carlos Bilardo, and was part in the 1988 Copa America squad that finished the competition in fourth place.

In Cordoba, Cordoba Province, Dertycia first began playing professionally for his the local club Instituto de Cordoba, moving in 1985 to Argentinos Juniors. In his four-year stint in the club, he was crowned the Copa Libertadores and finished runner-up in the Intercontinental Cup in his debut season. He was the top Primera Division scoring player in 1988-89. He finished in the top 20 with twenty goals.

Dertycia had one final season in the country – still in the top flight, where he went on to amass totals of 137 games and 39 goals – with Albacete Balompié, then returned to his native Córdoba to play in the Primera B Nacional. After short spells, including in Chile and Peru, he retired in 2002 at the age of 37.
