Onandi Lowe (born 2 December 1974) is also called Nandi Onandi Lowe, is an Jamaican Former international soccer player who played every position in the outfield however, he is best known for his speedy forward. He played a portion of his playing time playing in the Jamaican National Premier League as also playing with clubs in North America and England. In all, he scored 27 goals over 65 international games and played in the 1998 FIFA World Cup. But he ended up in trouble with the law for using drug use in the last few years of his career. He was called “one of Jamaica’s most controversial players”. The son of his, Damion Lowe also a professional footballer.

In 2001 the player attempted to make it in Europe by joining Port Vale on loan for the duration in the season 2000-2001. But his contract was not permanent at Vale Park was not made permanent following his departure from the club because the chairman Bill Bell refused to provide the player with a vehicle; when a reporter inquired whether he was unhappy over the cost of paying wages to the player who had escaped, Bell replied “dunner worry kid, we won’t be paying him”. He scored two goals in the game for Port Vale, his first goal was at Darlington at the Football League Trophy; Vale was able to take home the trophy during his absence. He also scored a goal during the season in the match against Cambridge United. He spent the remainder of the year playing for his new team Kansas City Wizards, and scored eight goals in his 20 games.

He joined Rushden & Diamonds of the Football League Third Division on loan in December 2001, and signed permanently with “Diamonds” in February 2002. He spent two years with the club; making close to 100 appearances and keeping a goal rate of better than one every two games he was a crowd favourite at Nene Park. This record includes a hat-trick against Mansfield Town at Field Mill on 30 March 2002, as part of the club’s run to the play-off Final, which ended in a 3–1 defeat to Cheltenham Town at the Millennium Stadium. He went on to score 16 goals in 42 games in 2002–03, as the club finished as the division’s champions. Moving on to Coventry City in March 2004, he got off to a bad start with manager Eric Black after failing to report for duty following an international game. He scored once against Crewe Alexandra in two matches before he was released at the end of the 2003–04 season due to his ongoing drug trial.

Lowe was arrested by British police in April 2004 for trafficking £117,000 worth of crack cocaine, he denied the charges. The exact charge was ‘attempting to possess 1.17 kg (2.5 lb) of crack cocaine with intent to supply’. The Prosecution claimed he signed for the package under the fake name of “Kevin Brown” and intended to profit financially from knowingly trafficking the drugs. Lowe countered that the fake name was to avoid paparazzi and that he had no idea about the contents of the package: “I am Jamaican, maybe you think differently. If I am a mate and you said, ‘can you do that for me’, I am not going to think anything bad of you.” Lowe said in a police interview: “I thought he was a friend”. In February 2005 he was cleared as the charges were dismissed for lack of evidence.

He began his career with Harbour View, before joining Canadian club Montreal Impact in 1996. The team came back to Jamaica with Waterhouse next year and then signed with American club Richmond Kickers via Arnett Gardens in 1999. He was then instrumental in helping Rochester Raging Rhinos to win the A-League in 2000. He then joined Kansas City Wizards the following year, as well as having a an unspecified time in loan at English club Port Vale. However, he did join Rushden & Diamonds in February 2002. He scored 49 goals in his 90 games in the league at the side. He moved from Coventry City in March 2004 but returned to Jamaican club Arnett Gardens later in the year following his detention at the request of British police. He participated in Portmore United, Miami FC as well as Arnett Gardens again, before retiring in 2008.

After having left Dunoon Technical High in his hometown of Kingston, Lowe joined Harbour View which is a top Jamaican club in 1993. A huge, versatile free-kick specialist who was able to play in any pitch and was well-known for his strong left foot. He was a prolific striker in the collaboration together with Walter Boyd in the “Reggae Boyz” “Road To France Campaign” in 1998, only to find himself on and off the team due to discipline-related reasons. He was in two games at the 1998 World Cup, the 3-1 loss against Croatia in the 3-1 defeat to Croatia and the 2 – 1 victory against Japan after being picked as a head coach Rene Simoes. He was able to score two times in the success of his country in 1998’s Caribbean Cup, against Netherlands Antilles in a group victory and also scored the only goal scored in the semi-final game against Antigua as well as Barbuda.

He featured in qualification for the 2002 World Cup, scoring against Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago in June 2001. He featured in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and scored and was then sent off in a 2–0 win over Guatemala at the Miami Orange Bowl. Jamaica went on to lose 5–0 to Mexico at the quarter-final stage. His last international was a March 2004 friendly match against Honduras in which he also scored a goal. During his 2004 drug trial he was suspended from international duty and despite being cleared of the charges in 2005, the 31-year-old Lowe was not selected again. He earned 65 caps for his country.
