Namazi was born in Provo, Utah, when his father, Mehdi Namazi, was studying at Brigham Young University to study for the master’s degree. The family moved back home to Iran where Namazi was raised in Tehran. At the age of 18 his father relocating his family back to United States after the Iranian Revolution. They were settled in Washington, D.C. Namazi went to West Virginia University where he was a part of the soccer men’s team from 1984 until 1987. He earned an undergraduate degree in exercise science.

In December of 2010, Namazi was named as an assistant coach at his Iran Pro League club Steel Azin F.C.. On April 28 2011, he took over as an assistant coach for the Iranian national team along with Carlos Queiroz and goalkeeping coach Dan Gaspar. On June 18, 2013, Iran qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, before being selected to play in the 2014 AFC Asian Cup months later. On March 26 the 26th of March 2014 Namazi was appointed assistant coach for the United States women’s national soccer team. In the course of the year, he took on the role of assistant coach of Tab Ramos, who coaches Tab Ramos with the United States men’s national under-20 soccer team.

In May 2018, Namazi became head coach of Persian Gulf Pro League side Zob Ahan with signing a one-year deal. However, he and the club agreed to part ways only six months into the appointment

Namazi then joined the technical staff of the United States U20 national team under manager Tab Ramos. In the beginning of April 2019, Namazi was also hired at the Danish club FC Helsingør. He was responsible for all scouting in North America. On 22 April, FC Helsingør sacked their manager, and the club announced that Namazi would take charge as a caretaker for the rest of the season. On 8 June 2019, he agreed to continue as manager for the club for the upcoming season. However, Namazi expressed regret two weeks later and announced that he would not continue with the Danish club and would move back to the United States.

In March 1999 In March 1999, The Philadelphia KiXX fired Dave MacWilliams. Namazi was on reserve with an injury following knee surgery, was appointed as the interim head coach. His achievements led to him signing an extension of his deal in the month of July in 1999. The following year, Namazi was the KiXX’s captain. KiXX through the MISL championships, where the team lost against the Milwaukee Wave. In 2002 the KiXX took the title, beating the Wave. In the middle of 2003, Namazi left the KiXX to become the head director for the San Diego Spirit of Women’s United Soccer Association. Namazi led his team Spirit into the semi-finals in the WUSA playoffs, which was the only season that the Spirit reached the playoffs. The WUSA ended up falling apart at the end of the season, and Namazi returned to Cleveland Force. Cleveland Force in October 2003. In March 2004 the Force appointed Namazi to be the interim coach. The Force made Namazi the permanent head coach one month after. Namazi took his Force into the 2005 MISL championship , but lost in the final to Milwaukee Wave. The Force went under during the off-season. On the 21st of September, the year 2005 Namazi was named the coach-in-chief for the St. Louis Steamers. Namazi led his Steamers into the final game, where they fell against the Baltimore Spirit. The Steamers were dissolved in the off-season and Namazi relocated to California to teach youth soccer for one year. Namazi returned to indoor soccer back in September of 2007 for The New Jersey Ironmen. On June 3 the 3rd of June, 2010 Namazi was appointed head coaching coach for the Chicago Red Stars in the Women’s Professional Soccer, replacing Emma Hayes.

When he was in 1988, Namazi made the move to professional soccer as a member of The Washington Diplomats of the American Soccer League. He played for two seasons with the Dips. Namazi was a part of a few games for his team the Hershey Impact of the American Indoor Soccer Association during the 1989-90 season, before being released on the 13th of January 1990. The following year, Namazi transferred into the Maryland Bays of the American Professional Soccer League. The Bays took home the league championship that year. Namazi played in the year 1991 in Maryland before joining the Fort Lauderdale Strikers for the 1992 season. Namazi was a part of Reading F.C. in the winter of 1992-1993. Then, in April of 1993, he was signed by his club, the Los Angeles Salsa of the APSL and played for two seasons during the winter of 1992-1993. When he left the league in December, 1994, joined the Baltimore Spirit of the National Professional Soccer League. He was a part of the 1995 season and received a spot as the 2nd Team All Rookie. In April of 1995 The Seattle SeaDogs selected Namadi in the Continental Indoor Soccer League draft however, he did not join the SeaDogs. He then made the move to outdoor soccer to the Delaware Wizards of the USISL. He was part of the MetroStars of Major League Soccer on loan from the Spirit on July 4 in 1996. In June of 1996 The Philadelphia KiXX selected Namazi in the NPSL expansion draft. The year 1997 was the time he won awarded the USISL Defender Of The Year for the New Jersey Stallions. In August 1997, he signed with the Carolina Dynamo late in the season. The following year, Namazi was a player with the Staten Island Vipers. Namazi was a part of KiXX until the KiXX until he was forced to leave just four games into 2003-2002 season. He was named the 2002 NPSL Defender of the Year, and also took home his second MISL title in the KiXX. He played in four matches in the South Jersey Barons of the USISL. In December 2003 Cleveland Force Cleveland Force traded Steve Klein to the KiXX in exchange for the rights to Namazi. Namazi was a member of the Force until the year 2005. Between 2002 and 2003, Namazi was part of his country’s United States national futsal team.
