Golan was also credited with a hat-trick during the 2005-06 UEFA Cup first round qualifying against Macedonian team FK Bashkimi in an 11-0 aggregate win for the Israeli team. Golan had a second hat-trick during the second stage of qualifying, in the initial round which was against Serbian team FK Partizan to ensure a 5-4 aggregate advancement to the groups phases of the event. But, Maccabi lost to the top teams in Group Stages, which comprised RCD Espanyol, U.S. Citta di Palermo, FC Lokomotiv Moscow and Brondby IF. After losing all of its matches and averaging just one goal, Maccabi was unable to score a goal in all of its matches. Israeli club scored just one goal in its four matches. The strike was made by Golan in an 1-0 loss to Palermo.
In Golan’s first season at Lokeren, the 2007–08 season, he scored 5 goals in 15 appearances. In his second season, he scored 6 goals in 29 appearances and in his last season with the club he scored 2 goals in 18 appearances. Overall in all club competitions he scored 13 times and made 6 assists in 64 games for Lokeren.
In December 2007, Omer Golan got his transfer to Europe when the Belgian club Lokeren paid an estimated $1 million to his former club, Maccabi Petah Tikva. One of his demands in the contract is that he could leave the club if a bigger club offers him a contract. Several Belgian top clubs such as Anderlecht and Standard as well as some English clubs, were reportedly wanting to sign him, but he finally signed in Lokeren, most likely due to the significantly higher wages which were offered to him.
Golan made his debut international in the Israel national team in the football league when he joined the team as the 74th minute substitution for Eyal Berkovich during an international friendly in the match against Moldova national team of football on the 28th of April, 2004. The first goal he scored for the international team came on February 9, 2004 in a friendly against the Croatia national team in which he scored the winning score to draw the match at 3-3.

Golan was a player in the youth squad at Maccabi Petah Tikva, before being assigned into the team’s first squad in the year 2000. In the 2003-2004 Israeli Premier League, Golan was the third top goalscorer, scoring 13 times. For the period 2005-2006, in the Israeli Premier League, Golan was fifth highest goalscorer with 11 strikes.
Golan was a part of the team that won the Toto Cup side of 2003-04 which defeated Maccabi Haifa 3-0 in the final. Golan had goals scored in the semi- final as well as the final. On 17 November 2007, Omer Golan scored the winning goal for Israel against Russia, handing England a lifeline in their qualification group for Euro 2008, meaning England could still qualify; if Russia had won, qualification for England would be near impossible. Golan was, for a short period, proclaimed a hero by English football fans; but England lost the match to Croatia meaning they did not qualify for Euro 2008.
