Omar Hayssam is one of the most popular and richest Financier who was born on January 3, 1963 in Syria. Omar Hayssam (Arabic: `mr Hythm, born 3 January 1963) is an Syria-born Romanian finance professional who was sentenced in absentia 20 years in prison following an Romanian judge found that he was responsible for the abduction of 3 Romanian reporters in Iraq in 2005.
Hayssam disappears of Romania in 2006, after the local court allowed him to leave a prison to recuperate at home after undergoing surgery for colon cancer. There is speculation that he went missing on the 12th of July of 2006, from Midia, in the Black Sea port of Midia on a cargo boat that was transporting young rams into in the Middle East. The escape led to the resignations of both the principal prosecutor and the head of the Romanian Secret Services in July.
Omar Hayssam was kidnapped by the Romanian special forces and handed over to the Police on July 19th 2013. He was immediately incarcerated at the Jilava Penitentiary to serve a 20 years sentence. He is currently awaiting other pending trials and civil suits.
In the case of kidnapping, Prima TV reporter Marie Jeanne Ion and cameraman Sorin Miscoci, as well as Ovidiu Ohanesian, a reporter who was working for the newspaper Romania Libera, were abducted on March 28, 2005, in Baghdad in Baghdad, where they were reporting on in the Iraq War. According to reports the kidnappers’ group comprised Mahmoud Khaled Al-Omar Abdel Jabbar Jasem Al- Samani, Ibrahim Yassin Kaathem Al-Jabouri, Omar Jassam Muhammad Ali Al-Salmani as well as Yussef Munaf Muhammad Al-Amin (the brother of Mohammad Munaf). Hayssam was born at Bucharest in the form of a college student in the beginning of the 80s and graduated at the Railroads, Roads and Bridges Faculty of the Bucharest Constructions Institute. He was married Adela and had seven children and was a Romanian citizen following the Romanian Revolution in 1989. In 2006, Marie Jeanne Ion, Sorin Mişcoci, and Ovidiu Ohanesian filed a civil suit against Omar Hayssam, each one asking for €2 million in damages for the trauma caused by their captivity; on June 13, 2007, the Bucharest Appeals Court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs.
