A member of a family with a total of Ten (four brothers as well as five sisters), Skeete travelled to England in the month of September 1964 to rejoin his parents who were been living in Acton, West London, and attended local schools up to the age of 15. When he left school, Skeete was able to become Motor mechanic three years after. He was employed for a short time as an assistant to the door in the Haven Stables on Spring Bridge Road in Ealing. The primary sport of his interest at the period was football. He was a member of a club for local youngsters.
Skeete traded in the family car to buy his first horse. He began showing jumping in 1992 at the age of 36. He has competed at all levels, with the exception of the high levels. Skeete wanted representing Barbados during the Olympics in Sydney in 2000, and show his jumping skills in the Barbadian flag however he was unable to get the required points required for qualifying.
