Oliver Ortmann is one of the most popular and richest Pool Player who was born on June 11, 1967 in Hamburg, Germany. Oliver Ortmann (born 11 June 1967) is a German professional pool player from Gelsenkirchen. Ortmann is three times world champion, winning the WPA World Nine-ball championship and two of the 2010 and 2007 Straight Pool World championships. Ortmann is only the second athlete (after Earl Strickland) to win three world championships. With 14 wins, he’s one of the top athletes at the European Pool Championships. Ortmann is second in line in line to Ralf Souquet of the Euro Tour, winning fourteen events. Ortmann was the very first player from Europe to take home the U.S. Open Straight Pool Championship in 1989.
Ortmann made his debut in Europe in his first appearance at the Mosconi Cup during the initial tournament in 1994, with the United States winning 16-12. The next season, Ortmann played in European continent’s first ever win. Ortmann was part of the winning team in 2002. The win in 2002 along with Ortmann was the subject of a six-time snooker World Champion Steve Davis as “one of the best moments of my career”. Ortmann was a member of the team for eight times (1994 1995, 1994 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004,) and was also the captain who was not playing in 2003. The eight appearances of Ortmann is the fifth-highest number among any European player.
In 1996, Ortmann was the first cue-sports player to receive the Silbernes Lorbeerblatt; fellow pool player Ralf Souquet won the award the following year. Ortmann won the winner-take-all International Challenge of Champions event in 1997. He was runner-up two years later, losing the final to Francisco Bustamante. In 2000, however, Ortmann defeated Bustamante in the final for his second championship.

Ortmann was was raised at Gelsenkirchen, Germany. At the age of six, he began playing pool located in the basement the restaurant his parents owned. Ortmann took home his very first major championship in 1985 , aged 17 (the eight-ball Junior European championships), beating the Swedish Per Anda in the final. The following year , he took home the first German nation’s championship (the straight-pool championship) after he met Thomas Engert in the final. Ortmann was inducted into the Straight Pool Hall of Fame during a ceremony in New York City in August 2013. Two years earlier, he said: “It would be a great honor for me to be one day inducted into the Straight Pool Hall of Fame with the greatest players in straight pool.” In 2014, Ortmann was inducted into the Billiard Congress of America’s Hall of Fame with promoter and historian Charles Ursitti.
