Octavio Zambrano is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on February 3, 1958 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Octavio Zambrano (born on February 3, 1958) is an American/Ecuadorian soccer coach, who is the current director of the Colombian Primera A club , Independiente Medellin. He was an ex-player with experience in international coaching. Zambrano has worked as a coach throughout North America, Latin America as well as Europe. He is a holder of the UEFA “A” diploma and an USSF “A” coaching license.
He was hired by MLS to work as an assistant to Lothar Osiander. He was involved in Los Angeles Galaxy reaching the MLS Cup final the first season in the league. Zambrano took over as head coach after Osiander was dismissed early in the year 1997. Zambrano’s 1997 team finished last in the league (3-9) to 15-13. The team ended the season with six consecutive wins and reached the play-offs. The 1998 Galaxy were 24-8 and beat every MLS scoring records. They ended the season with 85 goals and an average of 2.66 goal-per-game average The 1998 Galaxy was the very first North American professional soccer team to reach the CONCACAF club final match in the final against Cruz Azul of Mexico. Zambrano was the coach of his team’s Western Division All Star Team and the Galaxy 1997/98 set the record for the most consecutive regular season victories (12). However, in the playoffs, they fell short, losing to the expansion side Chicago Fire. After five games of the season of 1999, Zambrano was dismissed, and the Galaxy reached the MLS final that same year and lost against DC United.
From 2003 to 2006 Zambrano served a three-year term as elected Vice-President of FENODE (Ecuadorian/American Sports Federation).
In 2006, Zambrano was hired as the head coach for CS Tiligul-Tiras Tiraspol in Moldova. In 2008, after successfully taking Tiligul from the relegation zone to a fourth place overall, he left Tiligul and moved to FC Tatabánya in the Hungarian Soproni Liga. In 2009, he left Tatabanya.
Zambrano was a highly successful trainer at the top of his game in Major League Soccer during the late 1990s and the early 2000s. The .587 regular season record for winning surpasses Bruce Arena’s .604 as per the 2015 MLS records and facts.

Zambrano is from Guayaquil, Ecuador. He was a midfielder in the attacking position and made his debut professional at the age of 18 with Union Deportiva Valdez of the Ecuadorian First Division. He emigrated from Ecuador to United States from his native Ecuador in the year 1980 to study at Chapman University, and later was a part of the Los Angeles Lazers in the Major Indoor Soccer League.
In the year 1990, Zambrano was an assistant coach for Rildo Menezes (Ex-Santos of Brasil and New York Cosmos) with the California Emperors in the American Professional Soccer League. Then, in the year 1992, Zambrano was an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Salsa of the APSL and the head coaching the East Los Angeles Cobras of USISL. He also managed the highly-rated predominantly ethnically diverse group that came from Southern California, LA Salsa U-19. He was also and was a McGuire Cup finalist and was the 1994 USISL Western Division Coach of the Year. After his involvement in the LA Salsa Zambrano was hired as Director by the Mission Viejo Pateadores, one of the United States Top Soccer Academies.
Zambrano re-surfaced as the head coach of the MetroStars in 2000, replacing the much-traveled Bora Milutinović. He coached the team for three years. In 2000, he led the team from last in the East to first, winning the first trophy for the franchise, the MLS Eastern Division championship. For the first time, the MetroStars advanced the playoffs, defeating the Dallas Burn. Zambrano was fired after the 2002 season after failing to reach the playoffs.
