Nurduran Duman is one of the most popular and richest Translator who was born on October 23, 1974 in Çanakkale, Turkey. Nurduran Duman (born 23 October 1974 from Can-Canakkale) is Turkish writer, poet editor, translator, and journalist in the field of culture and art.

Duman has been elected as a member of the board of Writers Syndicate of Turkey and is a participant in Turkish PEN. She was the host of the literature program “Yazin Kuresi — Sphere of Literature’ and the children’s literature program “Kitap Hazinesi – Treasure of the Book’ on television and radio. She also has been involved in a variety of theatre events as an actor, director and actress during her entire career.

Poetry by her has been translated the languages of English, Finnish, Serbian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Slovak, French, and German. Semi Circle, a chapbook of poetry translated by the poet, was released in the publication Goodmorning Menagerie in USA in January of 2016. Individual translations of the poems were released within Gallerie (India), Colorado Review, Interim, Faultline, Eleven Eleven, Asymptote and many other journals from around the world. In the past, Duman was featured in the American art-literature journal BRN featuring an interview with Victor Hernandez Cruz, poet and the Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Her piece on the relationship with world peace as well as literary translation “Translation of Literature Means Peace” was written originally in English and published within Kaltio, the Finnish magazine Kaltio and was which was translated in Finnish in the hands of Paavo J. Heinonen. Her book of Selected Poems for Versopolis was published in three languages (Macedonian-English-Turkish) in 2017 in Macedonia. The poetry “The River” was published in Modern Poetry in Translation (MPT) in 2017 in the UK. She featured in the #internationalwomensday2018 (#IWD18) MPT list of ten women poets in translation from all over the World. Nurduran Duman’s poetry collection Yenilgi Oyunu (The Fighting Game) was presented with in 2005 the Cemal Sureya Poetry Award. In 2010, she released the book of narrative prose called Istanbul’la Bakismak, Salacak (Exchanging Glances with Istanbul, Salacak). The second volume of her poetry Mi Bemol (Mi Bemol) was published in the year 2012.

Duman actively takes part in a variety of literary events in the world. She was part of at the Edinburgh International Book Festival as an invited editor in August 2014, and later in August 2015. She was curator of foreign poets at the 18. Iskele-KIBATEK International Poetry Festival. She was selected to be a featured performer in the UNESCO European Literature Night held in Edinburgh on May 13 as well as at the EUNIC European Poetry Night held in London on May 14. She was given the award for in 2016 the Cultural Exchange Fellowship Program by The Turkish Cultural Foundation. She read works at the Sete International Poetry Festival in France in July of 2016. She was selected as a featured poet at Poetry 3 in January 2017; Poetica 3 held in Cologne, Germany in January 2017 The international festival of poetry held in Genoa, Italy in June 2017 and Struga Poetry Evenings in Macedonia in August of 2017. She is a poet featured in Versopolis, the European poets’ platform Versopolis. Recently she attended attend the first meeting of the International Writing program at the Lu Xun Academy of Literature (Nov 10-Dec 8) in Beijing, China. She is among the jury members from around the world for the Mini Poetry Contest in China. She is also among invited poets for the XV International Poetry Festival of Granada, Nicaragua (2019) and 13th International Poetry Festival in Pereira, Colombia (2019). She was part of the “Turkey Group of World Poetry Movement” that organized events in the event “Poetry For a World Without Walls” in February 2019.

Duman also actively translates literature into Turkish. She translated Alma Alexander’s book The Secret of Jin-shei, published in Turkey in 2007. Her poems, translations (poems and stories), poetic articles, book reviews and interviews with foreign writers (e.g. Eileen Gunn, Karen Joy Fowler, Yiyun Li, Anna Tambour, Monica Arac de Nyeko, etc.) have been published in numerous magazines and newspapers. She has also translated the poems of Anne Sexton, Sara Teasdale, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and Slyvia Plath.
