Noel became the captain for the very first time of the Mariners and led his squad to the first Hyundai A-League Grand Final, only a few steps away from the honor that was his first as captain take home the award. He scored the opener game of the first A-League season away from home, with Perth Glory, with a 30-yard strike from the distance into the top right part of the field. This goal earned him by the “Jesters’ Pies Marinators’ Goal of the Year” award at the conclusion of the campaign. Noel was a player for his home town of Wollongong from 1996 to 2000 and was part of the Wollongong Wolves championship-winning team of the 1999/2000 season. Following the team’s championship win, Noel went on to join Northern Spirit which he played and captained later until the NSL ended its existence. Between the conclusion of NSL tournament and start of the A-League He played in the A-League with Parramatta Eagles.

In his final season at the club, Noel was promoted to Player-coach, and led the team to the season Premiership, and Grand Final win over Bulli FC.
