Noel Michael LaMontagne (born March 9th 1977) is an ex- American defensive lineman in football who played for three years with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League. He played in the NCAA football tournament in the University of Virginia and attended Southern Lehigh High School in Center Valley, Pennsylvania.
After suffering a potentially fatal knee injury during his final college Bowl game in 1999 against the University of Illinois, Noel was released to join the Cleveland Browns in the spring of 2000. He was part of the Browns team from 2000 until 2002, and played every position on the offensive line. the damage and injuries to his surgically-repaired knee ended his career as a player. Although his time with the Browns was short-lived, Noel was still able to surpass the odds and realize his childhood dream of joining the NFL. He was able to play a significant part as offensive right guard during 1999 during which they Cleveland Browns played regular season games against the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars.
After completing His SLHS time in 1995 Noel was awarded a scholarship for full athletics to University of Virginia. University of Virginia (UVa) to play football for George Welsh and the Cavaliers. He was on the 1995 UVa Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship Team. He was named the 1st Team All- Virginia State offensive lineman in the years 1998 and 1999. Following the seasons of 1998 and 1999, Noel was voted a 1st offensive guard for the All-ACC Conference. He is among only two UVa offensive linemen (Ray Roberts, 1989 and 1989 and 1990) ever to earn the 1st Team All-ACC offensive linemen honors twice during their careers. In the season of 1998 as well as 1999, Noel earned several Offensive Lineman of the Week Awards from the league for his exceptional performance. He was also selected as the 1st All-American on the team at offensive guard after his 1999 campaign. As of 1999, Noel received the honor of being co-captain for the team’s football team with Thomas Jones (RB, New York Jets) and Travis Griffith (DE). The ACC presented the famous Tatum award in 1999 to Noel in 1999. He was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year. He was named first team Academic All-ACC both in 1998 and 1999. He was also being named the 1999 Academic All-American in 1999.

Through the four years he was in SLHS, Noel participated on the Track and Field Team. He won the Colonial League Championship in the Shot-Put in 1994 and the Colonial League Championship in the Discus in 1995. Also, he was the District Champion in the Discus in 1995, and was an PIAA State Championship Runner-Up that the same year. Noel was selected as The SLHS the Track and Field Champion in the year 1995, for the Spring and Winter teams. In 1995, the SLHS Athletic Department awarded him as their Male Athlete of Year in 1995. He was also awarded the Gerald Anuszewski Prize as “The Southern Lehigh High School Ideal Athlete”. Additionally, Noel was a 1995 Lee Iacocca Leadership Award nominee and was the Southern Lehigh National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete Nominee in 1995.
Noel LaMontagne started all 43 games in his four seasons as a linebacker on both defensive and offensive lines for coach Robert Clark at Southern Lehigh High School (SLHS). He was selected the 1st Team All-Colonial League as an offensive and defensive lineman in 1994 and 1995, and Academic All-Colonial League in 1994 and 1995. He was the co-captain for the 1995 SLHS Spartan team along with fellow All-Colonial League star players Judd Orlando (OG/DE) and Scott Unger (RB/DB). He also received an SLHS football Team MVP Award and the scholar Athlete Award following the 1995 season. Noel was named 1st Team All- State Big School offensive lineman in the year 1995. Noel was chosen to participate during the McDonald’s Lehigh Valley All-Star Football Classic and was also the captain and offensive tackle of the Mountain Valley-Colonial (MVC) team. In the same year, he received a call to play at the Big-33 Football Classic against the Ohio State Ohio in the role of offensive linebacker. In the event, Noel ended up playing both defensive and offensive tackle. He also served as co-captain with Brandon Short (McKeesport HS, Penn State University: LB), Aaron Harris (Downingtown High School, Penn State University: for RB) along with Mark Lapadula (Central Catholic HS, Northwestern University: DL) for the winning Pennsylvania team.
On June 5, 2005 in recognition of his athletic and academic career, the SLHS Athletic Department inducted Noel into the Southern Lehigh High School Sports Hall of Fame. He was also inducted as a Distinguished Alumni of the McDonald’s Lehigh Valley All-Star Game Hall of Fame in 2008. In 2011, the University of Virginia and the Virginia Football program retired his #77 jersey in Charlottesville, VA during halftime of the UVa versus North Carolina State football game.
