In the year 1990, Simons and Ausubel co-founded the Bioneers organisation and the Bioneers National Conference to showcase the existing solutions to the world’s social and environmental issues. The idea of Bioneers and the National Bioneers Conference arose from a meeting in 1989 together with Josh Mailman, a leader in the field of social investment and philanthropy who was involved in Seeds of Change and the Hoxsey film. After Ausubel discussed biomimetic innovation as well as other innovative solutions to social and environmental issues, Mailman proposed a conference and offered to fund the conference. Simons is now Bioneers’ Chief Relationship Strategist.
