He was the youngest of five children from the small village Pinarlar in the Tavas district in Denizli Province on 1 January 1961. The family’s income came through the cultivation of tobacco, and Nihat helped his parents during his youth.

He was elected to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey during the general elections of 2011 in the form of an MP for Denizli Province. On December 26, 2013 Nihat Zeybekci assumed office as minister of Economic Affairs, succeeding Zafer Caglayan in the Prime Erdogan’s cabinet reshuffle, which included 10 new names, which was made public the day before on the 25th of December in the wake of the corruption scandal that took place in 2013 in Turkey.

Zeybekci was elected to politics at the local at a regional level. At the 2004 local election Zeybekci was elected the as the Mayor of Denizli with the Justice and Development Party. He was elected again to the position in the local elections in 2009. Then, in 2011, he quit to contest a seat in the Parliament. In this period he was a representative for his city and the country in various organizations for regional authorities at the an international and national level.
