He has been awarded Blue Awards from both the University of Queensland, 2010 and the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2011. He was a rooster during the 2011 Para Pan Pacific Championships in Canada and won five gold medals, and smashing the world record for the breaststroke 100m. The year 2010 was a particularly successful year for Blake who won medals in 100m breaststroke event at the World Championships, before snaring an Olympic bronze medal during the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. At the 2012 Australian Swimming Nationals he again broke the World Record in the 100m Breaststroke (SB8) Final. In London 2012 2012 London Games, he participated in five events and took home two gold medals at the Men’s 100m Breaststroke SB7 and Men’s 4x 100 m Freestyle with 34 points.
His parents took him to swimming to ease his asthma. He started swimming competitively at the age of 16. It wasn’t until he was chosen from Swimming Australia as an AWD (Athlete with Disability) team participant in the Arafura Games in Darwin, 2007 that his potential was realized.
In 2011, he was a nominee for The Age’s Sport Performer Award in the Performer with a Disability category. In 2011, he won Swimming Australia’s Swimmer with a Disability of the Year Award. He has been awarded the ‘Graham Sherman Sunshine Coast Senior Sports Star of the Year’ for 2013. He was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2014 Australia Day Honours “for service to sport as a Gold Medallist at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.”
