Nigel McCrery is one of the most popular and richest Screenwriter who was born on October 30, 1953 in London, England, United Kingdom. Nigel Colin McCrery (born 30 October 1953 in London) is a famous English screenwriter, and former police officer.
He was employed by The Prince Edward (a friend from his Cambridge times) from 2001 until 2002 as the Head of Drama for Ardent Productions. He is an active part of both the Groucho Club and Blacks. Nigel lives alone and lives in Nottingham.

McCrery is currently working on another Lapslie book “Blood Line” to be published in 2018.
Because of his father’s (Colin George McCrery 1928–1990) RAF service, Nigel spent much of his early childhood travelling around the world before finally settling in Toton, Nottinghamshire. He attended Bispham Drive Junior School, followed by George Spencer Secondary School in Stapleford. The school later named a building after him. The Nigel McCrery Learning and Inclusion Centre, which was opened on Thursday 14 March 2013. Later he attended Beeston College of Further Education in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. He married in 1976 at the age of 23 and moved to West Bridgford. He and his then wife Gill had three children. Nigel and Gill are now divorced.
In 1992, when he was working as an assistant producer for The BBC1 program Tomorrow’s World McCrery arranged and paid for the remains of the Russian Royal Family to be taken to the UK to undergo DNA analysis. The task was completed through Peter Gill who with the help of Russian Forensic Science researcher Paval Ivanoff confirmed that the remains are belonging to the Tzar Nicholas II and his family. The remains were retrieved inside the original BA travel bag prior to being put into the rear of the Volvo and transported to Peter Gill’s home. “Not many people,” McCrery later said, “can say they had the Russian Royal family in the boot of their car”.

He was a member of his first unit, the Nottinghamshire Constabulary in 1978, at the age of 25 and was stationed in West Bridgford, Clifton, The Meadows, Carlton and St Ann’s. While in his police career, he participated in several murder cases and was fascinated by forensic research. McCrery quit the police force in August 1987, and enrolled at Trinity College, Cambridge from October of that year to study Modern History. In 1988, he convinced Sebastian Coe and Steve Cram to compete in a race across in the Great Court at Trinity College the race that was made famous in the movie Chariots of Fire; Coe took the victory by a whisker. The race raised over the sum of PS50,000 to benefit Great Ormond Street Hospital. He also organized an unprecedented debate with Cambridge University and Harvard University and Harvard University, again raising an impressive amount of funds for charities that help children.
He was selected to participate in the Graduate Entry Scheme in 1990. After completing a number of BBC documentaries and dramas, he joined in the BBC Drama department in the year 1992, and became the research director of the award-winning Our Friends in the North. Then he created his own series Backup (1994/1996), Silent Witness, All The King’s Men (1999), Born and Bred (2002/2006), Impact (2003) and New Tricks (2003/2015).
He gives much of his time to children suffering from dyslexia, a condition he has suffered with from birth. On Thursday 14 February 2013, his old School The George Spencer Academy, in Stapleford, Nottingham invited McCrery back to open their new Learning and Inclusion centre and named the building after him, ‘The Nigel McCrery Learning and Inclusion Centre.” McCrery is now involved with the charity “Care after Combat” which visits and helps former military personnel in prison.
