Early in his career Cumberland was an international Finance Director for Coats plc and also held the position of managing director with other groups like Adecco SA. He was in 2000 when he established St. George’s Consulting, an organization for recruitment and coaching which has branches situated in Hong Kong and China. It was merged into the Asian division of Harvey Nash plc in 2003 and changed its name to St. George’s Harvey Nash. The company was acquired by UK hiring company, Hays plc, in May of 2006.
