In the CRYPTO 2007 conference, during the rump panel, Dan Shumow and Niels Ferguson presented a document describing a possible backdoor to kleptography within the NIST-specified Dual_EC_DRBG cryptographically secure pseudorandom generator. The backdoor was discovered to be genuine in 2013 when it was revealed as part of the Edward Snowden leaks.
In 2006, he released an article that covered some of his research on Bitlocker complete disk encryption by Microsoft.
