In the CRYPTO 2007 conference, during the rump panel, Dan Shumow and Niels Ferguson presented a document describing a possible backdoor to kleptography within the NIST-specified Dual_EC_DRBG cryptographically secure pseudorandom generator. The backdoor was discovered to be genuine in 2013 when it was revealed as part of the Edward Snowden leaks.
