In the year 2004 Verlato moved to Milan and moved to New York City. While at New York, he was an instructor in painting and composition classes at New York Academy of Art. He has displayed his artworks drawings, sculptures, and paintings throughout all over the United States and internationally, including the White Columns in New York, Museum of Modern Art in Arnhem, Prague Biennale, and an exhibition during the 2009 Venice Biennale in the Italian Pavilion.

Nicola Verlato was born in Verona and began to paint in the early years of his life studying with Fra’ Terenzio, a painter in the monastery of the Franciscan friars from Lonigo. He received training in Classical music, and also studied composition and lute through the conservatories in Verona in Verona and Padua. He was a student at the architecture school University IUAV in Venice from 1984 until 1990, but the degree was never awarded.
His first major show was when he was fifteen in Lonigo’s town hall in Lonigo which was a three-person show together with 2 other artists from the area. After the move to Venice where he was employed, he worked for the local aristocracy as well as the wealthy foreigners living within the town. In this time, in addition to painting, he was involved in almost every aspect related to drawing, including staging design, decorations for temporary events comics, illustrations, storyboards and more. In 1995, he won an artist residency at Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa. When he was just 28 years old Verlato began to become involved in the art scene of today and, consequently, to exhibit in a variety of galleries in Italy as well as abroad, in group and solo shows. The year 1996 saw Verlato made the move to Milan which is where he gained his well-established fame in Italy. In the same year, he exhibited his work at XII Quadriennale at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome.
