Nicola Claire Blackwood, Baroness Blackwood of North Oxford (born 16 October 1979) is a British politician in the Conservative Party. She is a Baroness Blackwood served as a member of parliament (MP) in the constituencies of Abingdon West and Oxford West and Abingdon from 2010 until 2017. Her name is also used as her married name , Nicola Blackwood-Bate, since the year 2016.

She was elected a Member of Parliament in the 2010 election , with an overwhelming majority of 176 votes, beating those who were Liberal Democrats, who had been in the seat since 1997. Her seat was vacated during the election of 2017 to Liberal Democrats, who won the seat back with a majority of 816. In her time as a MP she chaired by the Science and Technology Select Committee during the second Cameron ministerial term and was the health minister’s junior during the first May ministerial.

In 2015, student activists criticised Blackwood for her support of fox hunting and she later confirmed pro-hunting group Vote-OK assisted with her election campaign during the 2015 general election. In June 2015, Blackwood was elected to the chairmanship of the Science & Technology Select Committee.

At the 2015 general election, Blackwood retained her seat with a majority of 9,582 which was in part due to the national swing of voters against the Liberal Democrats.

Blackwood was elected the seat at the general election of 2010 with 171 votes in an 6.9 percent swing towards those who voted for the Conservatives over her party, the Liberal Democrats. In the latter part of 2010 she was elected as a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee and was the secretary of the All- Party Parliamentary Group on Overseas Development. She was part of the Conservative Party Human Rights Commission and also held a spot in the Council of Advisors for ZANE the charity that aims to help the elderly in Zimbabwe.
