Forster believes that Reading’s 2002-03 season as his finest performance of his career. He scored 17 goals, which included the hat-tricks in the games against Ipswich Town and Preston North End in the same season. Reading placed fourth. Forster scored the first goal in the play-off semi-final with Wolverhampton Wanderers, but went off injured , and Reading fell 3-1 in aggregate.
Despite being a popular player at Reading, he was allowed to join Ipswich Town on a free transfer in 2005. Unable to replicate for Ipswich the form he showed with Reading due to several injury setbacks over the 2005–06 season, Forster signed a two-year contract with Hull City on 31 August 2006 for a £250,000 transfer fee. He had been a teammate of Hull City’s manager, Phil Parkinson, while at Reading.
In January 2007, Brighton & Hove Albion made an unsuccessful £100,000 bid for Forster. However, at the end of the 2006–07 season, Forster stated his wish to move back to the south of England for family reasons, and eventually signed a three-year contract with Brighton in late June 2007 for a £75,000 fee. He attributed his decision to drop down to Football League One from the Championship to the ambition shown by Brighton manager Dean Wilkins and chairman Dick Knight.
A year later, Forster was transferred again but the second time, to Reading in the English League, where he played six years with the club for a price of £650,000 between 1999 to 2005. Forster gets a part in the blame for saving Reading’s 1999-2000 campaign, in which Reading moved up from the Division Two Relegation zone in the Christmas period to finish within the top 10 of the table under the interim Alan Pardew’s management. But, injured Forster could not play a role in the club’s great fortunes the subsequent season. But, he returned at the time of his 2000-01 Division Two play-off semi final against Wigan Athletic. In the second half, with Wigan ahead 1-0 in aggregate, Forster came on as an unused substitute. He was the one to set the way for Martin Butler for the equaliser and then won a penalty after Jamie Cureton’s attempt had been saved Forster made it 2-0 through the rebound. Reading lost the final match 3-2 in an extra period of time against Walsall. He scored 18 goals in the following season when Reading were elevated into Division One.

Forster born in Caterham, Surrey, was noticed playing for the non-league Horley Town and invited for trials by Gillingham in December 1991. After impressing in the reserve and youth teams, Forster signed a professional deal in May 1992. He made his debut the following month in September. He played a prominent role in the club’s rather disappointing 1993-94 season and scored 18 goals however, at the conclusion of the season, he turned off a contract extension and instead signed with Brentford for PS320,000. The move resulted in a negative reaction from Gillingham supporters that lasted for a long time.
When he was in Brentford, Forster formed prolific partnership alongside Carl Asaba and Robert Taylor Both of whom will later move to his old club Gillingham. Forster played 109 times in the league with Brentford with 39 points in his time playing at Griffin Park. The club later awarded him a cap by England at the under-21 level shortly afterward. Then, in January of 1997 Forster was transferred from Birmingham City to Birmingham City for a cost of £700,000. Forster played 67 games in the league and scored 11 league goals for Birmingham City.
During his time at Hull City, Forster made 37 appearances and scored six goals for the club; these totals include one goal in two FA Cup appearances. His form helped propel him to second place in the club’s Player of the Year awards for the 2006–07 season.
