Wittgren was traded to Cleveland Indians for Jordan Milbrath on February 4, 2019. Wittgren was optioned by the AAA Columbus Clippers on March 24, 2019. After Mike Clevinger’s 10-day IL, Wittgren was called up to Indians.

Wittgren was promoted by the Marlins to the major leagues in April 2016. He walked Anthony Rendon, his only Major League batter, in his first appearance. Wittgren was born in Torrance in California. He grew up in Lafayette in Indiana, where he attended McCutcheon High School. Wittgren played for the school’s basketball, tennis, and baseball teams. Wittgren was a college baseball player at Parkland College for one year, before moving to Purdue University in 2011. He was the Purdue closer during his two-year tenure. After two games, he was promoted to Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs.
