To date, he has released thirteen albums on his own Blue Bella Records label. He has performed with Buddy Scott and Jimmy Dawkins as well as Jimmy Rogers, Jimmy Rogers, and the Legendary Blues Band. He has also been a frontman for his own band, Nick Moss and The Flip Tops from 2008 to 2008. After that, he changed the name to Nick Moss Band in 2009. Bill Dahl, a music journalist, stated that Moss has “mastery over the classic Chicago sound”.
Moss’s ninth album Here I Am was released on November 22, 2011. It was nominated in the category Rock Blues Album for a Blues Music Award 2013. Time Ain’t Free was his tenth album and was released in March 2014. Guitar World magazine voted it one of the top 50 albums of 2014.
The High Cost of Low Living (2018) was a slight departure from the norm, incorporating a significant guest appearance from the harmonica player Dennis Gruenling, plus the release was via Alligator Records.
His 2019 joint recording with Dennis Gruenling, Lucky Guy!, was chosen as a ‘Favorite Blues Album’ by AllMusic. In May 2020, the Nick Moss Band featuring Dennis Gruenling won two Blues Music Awards for ‘Band of the Year’ and ‘Traditional Blues Album of the Year’ for Lucky Guy!.
Nick Moss and Flip Tops recorded two live albums in Chan’s, a Rhode Island nightclub. The second featured the Gerry Hundt’s harp playing. Moss and the Flip Tops performed at Memphis in May 2008 and the Ottawa Blues Festival 2008. Moss also produced Magic Slim’s album Midnight Blues that year. Later, Moss changed the name of the group to the Nick Moss Band.

Moss learned the bass guitar in his youth. When he was in his twenties, he joined Buddy Scott’s backing group. Scott was his backing band for two years. He then played for Jimmy Dawkins. He was a member of the Legendary Blues Band by 1993 and played bass for their last album Money Talks. Willie Smith, the band’s frontman suggested that Moss switch to lead guitar. He spent more than two years with them before they parted ways.
After three years of playing guitar with the Jimmy Rogers Band, Moss decided to pursue a solo career. First Offense, Moss’s debut album (re-released 2003), was billed by Nick Moss & the Flip Tops. It featured a guest appearance from Lynwood Slim, a harmonica player. Each of his next albums, Got a New Plan (2001), Count Your Blessings (2003) and Sadie Mae (2005) were nominated for a W. C. handy Award.
