Hudson made his debut as an Australian senior rower five years later. He won a silver medal at 2009 World Rowing Championships, Poznan (Poland). Hudson made it to the A Final at the 2010 World Rowing Championships in Lake Karapiro (New Zealand) the next year. They finished fifth in the men’s double scull race with Jared Bidwell.
He was vying for a seat in the Australian men’s eight for the 2012 London Olympics but missed selection and raced in a coxless pair with Fergus Pragnell at the World Rowing Cups II and III in Europe that year and was a reserve for the Olympic heavyweight squad. In 2014 he competed in the double scull and the quad at the World Rowing Cup I in Sydney, winning gold in the quad. Hudson announced his retirement from competitive rowing in March 2015, on the eve of the Australian Rowing Championships.
Hudson won the Noel F Wilkinson Cup Youth Eights in 2003 while racing domestically for New South Wales. He stroking his crew to almost five seconds of victory. In 2007, Hudson’s Kings Cup debut was for New South Wales, finishing 2nd behind Victoria. In 2009, Hudson won the New South Wales Kings Cup crew by more than five seconds. Hudson won the Kings Cup for the second time in 2010. He was also selected to be in the crew in 2012. New South Wales won the event, making Hudson the third winner.

Hudson attended The King’s School in Parramatta, where he learned to row. From a 5th place at the AAGPS Head of the River in 2000, he rowed the school’s first VIII. He was part of the King’s School’s first VIII of 2001, which he won with future Australian representatives Sam Loch and Matt Ryan. They won the Barrington Cup at National Championships as well as the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta later in the year.
In 2003, Hudson was the first to represent Australia. After racing in a quad scull World Rowing Cup III at Lucerne, he competed in the Nations Cup in Belgrade (now the World Rowing U23 Championships). Hudson competed in the quad scull alongside Henry Gundry, Eugene Arendsen and Tom Westgarth. They won a gold medal. Hudson won the bronze medal at the 2004 World Rowing U23 Championships.
At the 2011 World Rowing Championships in Bled, Slovenia, Hudson competed in the men’s single scull giving him senior national representation across the full range of sculling boats in the space of just three years. He placed eighteenth in what would be his last World Championship appearance for Australia.
