Catone, who suffered two injuries, was to be dropped to the welterweight weight division. He was instead scheduled to face Tomasz Dwal on September 15, 2010, at UFC Fight Night 22. Catone was injured and he pulled out of the fight against Drwal.
Catone was expected to face Aaron Simpson on October 8, 2011 at UFC 136. However, Catone was forced out of the bout after tearing an Achilles tendon, and was replaced by Eric Schafer.
Catone was expected to face Dan Miller on March 19, 2011 at UFC 128 in a catchweight bout of 195 lbs. However, Miller was pulled from the bout to fill in for Yoshihiro Akiyama against Nate Marquardt and was replaced by UFC newcomer Costas Philippou. He won the fight via unanimous decision.
Catone was to face TUF 7 winner Amir Sadollah in Catone’s UFC debut at UFC 91. Sadollah pulled out of the match due to a leg infection. The match against Sadollah was cancelled because it was impossible to find a replacement. UFC Fight Night 17 rescheduled the match against Sadollah for February 7, 2009. Sadollah had to withdraw from the fight on January 23 due to fractured clavicle.

Catone started wrestling in middle school. Catone continued to wrestle throughout his high school and middle school years. Catone was a Brick Memorial High School wrestler from Brick Township, New Jersey. He won many titles and awards while there. Catone was a New Jersey State Place winner, a three-time Division I national champion, a 2x Division I conference champ, and he had 100 Division I career wins. Although he was awarded a scholarship to wrestle at Rutgers University, he didn’t like the college’s lifestyle. After a year at Rutgers University, Catone moved to Rider University. He was named Male Athlete-of-the Year in 2004. Catone graduated from Rider University with a bachelor’s in psychology.
Catone knew that he didn’t want to quit wrestling after college. In 2005, Catone found a mixed-martial arts training center and began working hard to improve his boxing and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu skills in order to be a professional mixed martial artist.
Catone was scheduled to face John Salter on May 8, 2010 at UFC 113, but Catone was forced from the card with a back injury. He was replaced by Jason MacDonald.
