Nicholas McRoberts was a Ballarat native who was born in Melbourne in 1977. While a student at Clarendon College and Ballarat, he studied piano with Anna Jurkewicz as well as Bruce Keck. He continued his studies at the Melbourne Conservatorium and the Victorian College of the Arts, as well as composition and the Australian National Academy of Music. He founded the Trinity College Chamber Orchestra while tutoring at Trinity College in Melbourne. Robert Rosen, Jorma Pantula, and Dejan Savic taught him how to conduct. He moved to France and continued his studies at the Conservatoire de Paris, CNSMDP under Janos Furst, and at the Ecole Normale, Conservatoire Cortot.
His Violin Concerto was recorded with the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017.
His ballet “Les Tisseuses de Silence” created for the Nawel Oulad Compagnie was performed in Paris in 2017 in the Festival Les Aliennes and the Festival Appel de la Lune.
In 2018 he was named Artistic Director of Opéra Montmartre in Paris.
His operas include Lyon (2016), which was premiered by the Ruse Opera in July 2016 and Nera(2017), which were adapted from the Serbian playwright Vida Objenovic’s play Devojka Modre Kose (“The Girl with the Midnight Blue Hair”)
