Nelson Akwari is one of the most popular and richest American soccer player who was born on February 4, 1982 in Houston, Texas, United States. Nelson Ndukwe Akwari, a former American soccer player was born in Houston, Texas on February 4, 1982. He started his career in the United States with the youth academy of the United States in Bradenton, Florida. Later, he played for various professional clubs in different U.S. leagues.

Real Salt Lake selected Akwari tenth in the Expansion draft after the 2004 season. This reunited him with John Ellinger, his old coach. Akwari was a part of 41 games in the 2005-2006 seasons.

Akwari signed on 26 January 2010 for the Canadian club Vancouver Whitecaps a one-year contract. He scored his first professional goal for Vancouver on April 29, 2010 in a game against the Portland Timbers. On October 19, 2010, the Vancouver Whitecaps released Akwari. Akwari joined the expansion Los Angeles Blues in the USL Pro league for the 2011 season.

Akwari retired following the 2011 season and settled in Charleston, where he works as an engineer for Boeing and is a frequent commentator on Battery game broadcasts.

After his sophomore year, Akwari quit college to seek European opportunities. However, he was not offered any. He signed a Project-40 contract with MLS in 2002. Akwari was placed in a lottery which was won by the MetroStars. Akwari played seven games before being traded to the Columbus Crew during the offseason. Akwari was limited to 11 games, but he started five for the Crew. He also spent a lot time on loan with the A-League’s Cincinnati Riverhawks. Akwari started to show more promise after his youth national team experience. He took over the starting right back spot midseason and remained there throughout the year. The Crew won the MLS Supporters Shield with 16 starts.
