Darren Sawatzky is one of the most popular and richest American soccer player who was born on February 22, 1973 in Seattle, Washington, United States. Darren Sawatzky (born February 22 1973, in Seattle, Washington) is a American football coach, and former athlete. He is director of soccer for the Richmond Kickers in USL League One. He played four seasons with Major League Soccer, one season in the Major Indoor Soccer League, one with the USISL and five with the United Soccer Leagues. He currently holds a variety of coaching roles in high schools, college as well as professional levels. He was Director of Development of Young Players at the Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer. In January of 2015 He was appointed the head trainer of Tacoma Stars of the Major Arena Soccer League. In 2015 and since then, Sawatzky has coached the indoor Tacoma Stars.

On December 12, 2018, Sawatzky was named the head coach of FC Tucson in USL League One.

On November 6, 2019, he was named as head coach and sporting director of the Richmond Kickers.

Sawatzky began his coaching career in the year 1991 for his club, Tualatin Hills Soccer Club. In the following years the coach continued to work for various youth teams during his playing days. He was in 2001 when he was an assistant coach at Central Catholic High School in Portland, Oregon while playing with the Timbers. After moving from Portland to Seattle at the end of 2002, he took over as an assistant coach for his former school, Jefferson High School. He was named head coach in 2005 and led Jefferson towards the 4A Washington State Championship. He also was an assistant coach for his former team at the University of Washington. On the 21st of February 2007 Sawatzky became a part of with the Seattle Sounders as an assistant coach. He is also Coach Director at HPFC Youth Club located in Washington State. He has coached and assisted almost every team of HPFC. HPFC girls and boys team, including HPFC Boys Blue 94 as well as HPFC Girls 95 blue.

Sawatzky was born in the Seattle region, and played with the Highline club when he was a young. He was a student at Thomas Jefferson High School in Federal Way, Washington. After finishing high school, Sawatzky enrolled in his first university, the University of Portland. He was a member of Portland’s University of Portland Pilots soccer team from 1991 until 1994, and finished his career in the top ten spots in the scoring list for career. His graduation from Portland with an associate’s degree in communications for organizational purposes.

The year 1995 saw Sawatzky joined the expansion club Oregon Surge in USISL. Also, he had tests in 1995 with Mexican club UNAM Pumas and Leon in 1995 but was not able to secure an agreement with either club. He also was to the trial stage for Leicester City, but was not signed. In February of 1996 The New England Revolution of Major League Soccer (MLS) chose Sawatzky as the eighteenth pick (75th overall) in the inaugural MLS Draft. He played in 19 games and scored four goals during the season. He was released in 1997. time on the field was reduced to five games when the Revolution took him on loan to The Connecticut Wolves and Worcester Wildfire of the USISL A-League. The Revolution announced the release of Sawatzky on the 10th of November 1997. In 1998 the Dallas Burn of MLS selected Sawatzky in the third round (thirty- fourth overall) of the 1998 Supplemental Draft. But, he only played for three minutes with the Burn since they first loaned him for the New Orleans Storm then the Hershey Wildcats before releasing him. Sawatzky was then signed by Charleston Battery. Charleston Battery, playing nineteen games during the season of 1998. In 1999 the Colorado Rapids of MLS took Sawatzky in the first round (eighth overall) of the 1999 Supplemental Draft. Sawatzky played 14 matches with the Rapids in 1999, but was dismissed on November 24 1999. In April 2000, the Seattle Sounders of the United Soccer Leagues (USL). He finished third place in the league, scoring 16 goals and was awarded the first the team All Star recognition. He was a part of only one season with the newly formed Portland Timbers. On the 20th of December 2001 the Timbers were released Sawatzky. Then, he joined the Kansas City Comets of Major Indoor Soccer League. Then, in February of 2002, he joined the Sounders as an independent player. The Sounders saw him play less during his time with the Sounders for the next two seasons. On July 23rd, 2004 the Sounders announced his intention to step down at conclusion of the season and dedicate his entire time to coaching.

On August 31, 2016, Sawatzky was hired as the interim head coach of the Guam national football team.
