Ned Zelic is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on July 4, 1971 in Sydney, Australia. Nedjeljko Zelic (Croatian pronunciation : [ze:litc]; born 4/7/1971) is an Australian ex- footballer, commonly known as Ned Zelic. He played as a defensive or centre- backer.

He moved to Japan in 2002 to play in J1 League. There he played for two years under Dutch coaches Hans Ooft & Wim Jansen. In Japan, he won the Japanese Cup with Urawa Red Diamonds. Zelic signed with FC Wacker Tirol in Austria in July

2004. He stayed there for one year.

After being granted a work permit, he signed a one-year deal with Dutch side Helmond Sport in August 2006, working again with his former 1860 Munich teammate Gerald Vanenburg, who was coach there. However, he left Helmond after only two months due to knee problems and considered retirement.

In January 2007, Zelic joined Georgian club FC Dinamo Tbilisi on a free transfer, where he played under former Czech National Team coach Dusan Uhrin. He announced his retirement from football in May 2008, after winning the Georgian Championship with Dinamo Tbilisi.

After a dispute with Frank Farina, Zelic has been unable to play for Australia’s senior, youth and Olympic teams. Zelic was the captain of the Australian team which competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and placed 4th.

Zelic spent the majority of the 1990s in Europe playing, most notably at Borussia Dortmund, where he reached UEFA Cup Final in the first season. He lost to Juventus Turin of Italy. In 1995, Zelic won the German Bundesliga title. After a brief spell in the Premier League, Zelic moved for a club record of PS1.25million. However, he was plagued by injuries and discontent. He left the West London club after only four Premier League matches and moved to Eintracht Frankfurt, Germany.

He signed for AJ Auxerre in France after only a few short months. He was replaced by Laurent Blanc, who went to FC Barcelona. Zelic was chosen to represent the World All Star team against Brazil in July 1996 at Giants Stadium in New York City. Richard Moller Nielsen, Euro 92 winner with Denmark was the coach of the All Star team, which included players such as Jurgen Klinsmann and Lothar Matthaus. Zelic made 102 Bundesliga appearances in 1998 for 1860 Munich.

In 2005, Ned Zelic agreed terms to a two-year deal as a marquee to captain the Newcastle Jets in the A-League, where he played out the whole season from central defence. The Jets finished fourth on the league table and lost to the Central Coast Mariners 2–1 on aggregate over two legs in the Minor Semi-final.
