Former Sri Lankan cricketer, Mohamed Naveed Nawaz (Tamil nviitt nvaas – born September 20, 1973 in Colombo). He was a left-handed cricketer and a leg-break player who played in one Test and three One-Day Internationals for Sri Lanka. He has been appointed to coach the under-19 team of Bangladesh. Under Nawaz’s coaching, Bangladesh won the 2020 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup by beating India by three wickets.
He was named captain of Sri Lanka’s A side that toured New Zealand in 2004. The team featured very talented players such as Lasith Malinga.
In 2007/08 Naveed Nawaz was head coach of the Fingara International cricket academy (FICA), an academy that is owned by a privately held company in Sri Lanka.
In 2009, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) appointed Naveed Nawaz the Head coach of the Sri Lanka National under-19 team.
He was a regular number three batsman for his club sides Bloomfield, and then NCC. This included playing alongside Sri Lankan players like Sanath Jayasuriya and Aravinda de Silva, Hashan Tillekaratne, Kumar Sangakkara, and Sanath Jasuriya. His first class average was 40. He got the chance to display this in 2002, almost five years after his first international appearance as an ODI batsman and many years after his first international tour to the Caribbean with Arjuna Rantunga’s team. He came out of the Test match with a test score of 99, which is his current average until he is shelved.
