Natalya Estemirova is one of the most popular and richest Journalist who was born on February 28, 1958 in Kamyshlov, Russia. Natalya Khusainovna Estemirova (Russian name: Natal’ia Khusainovna Estemirova — 28 February 1958 – 15 July 2009) is a Russian human right activist and was a board member of Memorial, a Russian human-rights organization. Estemirova was being worked on “extremely sensitive cases” of human rights violations in Chechnya when she was abducted by unknown people on 15 July 2009. Two witnesses claimed that Estemirova was pushed into a vehicle and shouted that she was being taken. At 4:30 p.m., her remains were discovered in woodland 100 metres (330 feet) from the federal road “Kavkaz” in Ingushetia. They had bullet wounds to the chest and head.

Estemirova, a woman living in Grozny (Chechnya), was abducted 15 July 2009. Tanya Lokshina, a Moscow bureau representative of Human Rights Watch, stated that Estemirova was abducted by unknown persons near her Grozny home at about 8:30 AM. When Estemirova failed to attend a scheduled meeting, her colleagues raised alarm and went to her house to find witnesses and question them. Two witnesses claimed that Estemirova was pushed into a car and shouted at her abduction. Lokshina claimed that Estemirova was taken because she was working on sensitive cases in Chechnya concerning human rights abuses. Lokshina claimed that Estemirova was abducted because of her professional activities. Human Rights Watch demanded that Estemirova be safely returned home to Ramzan Kadyrov and the Kremlin.

In February 2010 an anonymous source in the Russian law enforcement bodies claimed that investigators knew Estemirova’s murderer. Yet, the murderer wasn’t caught, nor was the organizer of the crime identified.

In January 2010, Ramzan Kadyrov, in an interview to Russia Today accused Boris Berezovsky of murdering Estemirova. Despite expressing confidence that the crime will be solved, he acknowledged that as of that date it had not:

Estemirova was born in Kamyshlov Oblast, Sverdlovsk Oblast, to Russian and Chechen parents. She received a history degree at Grozny University, and then taught history at a local high-school until 1998. She was a local newspaper correspondent, The Voice and The Worker of Grozny in 1991. She filmed 13 documentaries on Russian punitive tactics while working in Grozny. As a press secretary, she was a member of the Organization of Filtration Camps Inmates. This honors brave women who defend human rights from war or conflict and protect them at all costs. The Anna Politkovskaya award is given annually to honor the memory of Russian investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya. It is presented by Reach All Women in War, an international human rights organisation supporting women human rights defenders in conflict and war zones. Estemirova was a collaborator with Anna Politkovskaya, an investigative journalist, and Stanislav Markelov (a human rights lawyer), who were both also killed in 2006 and 2009.

Journalists of Novaya Gazeta together with the human rights society Memorial and the International Federation for Human Rights are conducting their own investigation, they also monitor the official investigation. According to them, the main version of the official investigators is that Estemirova was murdered by rebel Alkhazur Bashayev, a member of a jamaat in the Chechen village of Shalazhy (Шалажи). On 15 January 2010 during a search in the house of Alkhazur Bashayev, the investigators found a large stockpile of weapons, including the handgun that was used to murder Estemirova and a counterfeit police id with a photograph of Bashayev. On 7 February 2010, they found an abandoned VAZ-2107 car that was identified as the car bought by Bashayev. In the car they found a suppressor made of the same material as the fragment found on the crime scene. The plant fragments found on the suspension on the car were similar to the plants found at the crime scene.
