Ghilascu was born at Cotiujenii Mari in Republic of Moldova. She attended the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova as well as the Free International University of Moldova. She was awarded a Hubert Humphrey Program fellowship at Arizona State University in 2015. After her studies at Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, she was inspired to make documentaries and films and advocate for human right.
