Ghilascu was awarded a media award by United Nations in 2011 for her research on human rights violations. It was published in “Testing waters: LGBT peoples in Europe and Eurasia” by the United States Agency for International Development. This later led to conflicts with the religious community. Ghilascu was on a “black list” that included people who supported homosexuality. The Moldovan courts urged Ghilascu to be removed. Her report was used by LGBT victims as evidence of discrimination in hospitals by public servants.

Ghilascu is still passionate about video art. The Human Rights Film Festival in Chisinau featured her short documentaries, which depicted stories about people with mental and physical disabilities, Romma (racial discrimination), people living with HIV/AIDS, etc. Inspired by her Jewish friend’s life, Angel Back, which emphasized clashes between religions and family traditions was directed by Angel Back. It was shown at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival and the Miami International Film Festival in 2016. The film was also awarded at the Paranormal Film Festival Chicago.

Ghilascu was born at Cotiujenii Mari in Republic of Moldova. She attended the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova as well as the Free International University of Moldova. She was awarded a Hubert Humphrey Program fellowship at Arizona State University in 2015. After her studies at Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, she was inspired to make documentaries and films and advocate for human right.
