Galakteros started his basketball playing career with Amyntas, and he later he played with AEK. He was a Greek Cup finalist in 1992. In 1993, he moved to PAOK. While playing with PAOK, he won the FIBA Korać Cup in 1994, and the Greek Cup in 1995.

Galakteros played professionally in the Greek Basket League, winning several titles, and represented the senior Greek national basketball team in major tournaments.
