Nancy Savoca is one of the most popular and richest Film Director who was born on July 23, 1959 in Bronx, New York, United States. Nancy Laura Savoca was the daughter of Carlos Savoca and Maria Elvira Savoca, both Argentine immigrants. She went to local schools. After finishing her Queens College Flushing courses, Savoca graduated in 1982 from the Tisch School for the Arts, New York University’s film school. She was awarded the Haig P. Manoogian award for overall excellence in her short films Renata, Bad Timing.

Savoca was honored as a “New York trailblazer”, at the 1998 New York Women’s Film Festival. The Los Angeles chapter of Women in Film and Television also honored Savoca.

When Revolution Books screened Dirt on August 11, 2010, Savoca appeared for a Q&A. Shot in NYC and El Salvador, Dirt is a tragicomedy about an undocumented cleaning woman.

Savoca completed an independent feature, Union Square, starring Mira Sorvino, Tammy Blanchard, Patti LuPone, Mike Doyle, Michael Rispoli and Daphne Rubin- Vega. Madeleine Peyroux recorded an end song for the film which was invited to open in 2011’s Toronto International Film Festival. It was released in selected theaters throughout the United States.

1989 was her first feature-length film, True Love. It was privately funded and centered on the Bronx’s Italian-American marriage rituals. It was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival. Janet Maslin of The New York Times and Vincent Canby, of The New York Times, praised the movie as one of their best. It starred Ron Eldard and Annabella Sciorra, who were both making their film debuts. Savoca was nominated as the Spirit Award for Best Director. MGM/UA acquired the distribution rights, and RCA released it. Two songs reached the Top 40 on the Billboard charts.

Savoca was a storyboard artist, assistant editor and producer on an independent film after graduating from film school. As a production assistant to John Sayles’ film The Brother From Another Planet and as an assistant auditor to Jonathan Demme on two of his films, Something Wild (1986) and Married to the Mob (88), her first professional experience was in the field of filmmaking.

Savoca directed the 2002 concert film Reno: Rebel without a Pause starring comedian Reno.
