Nancy Reid Gibbs, born January 25, 1960, is an American essayist and speaker. She was the former Managing editor of TIME magazine. A best-selling author and commentator on politics in the United States, she is now the former Presidents Club: Inside the World’s Most Exclusive Fraternity (2012). Michael Duffy is her co-author of The New York Times bestsellers The Preacher and the Presidents (2007) and The Presidents Club : Inside the World’s Most Exclusive Fraternity (2012). Gibbs is currently the Lombard Director of Shorenstein Center at Havard Kennedy School of Government. She is also the Visiting Edward R. Murrow Prof of Press, Politics, and Public Policy.

Nancy was a Ferris Professor in writing at Princeton University between 1993 and 2006. Former elder and deacon at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, New York City. Nancy is currently the Co-Chairwoman for the Board of USC’s Annenberg Center on Communication Leadership and Policy. Nancy joined the Chautauqua Institution Board of Trustees in 2019.

Nancy stepped down from the position in September 2017 but remains an Editor at Large. Most recently, Nancy has published a series of essays in TIME, with topics including, “The Danger of Donald Trump’s Ignorance,” “Joe Biden and the Hard Choices for Democrats in 2020” and “How Donald Trump Lost by Winning.”

Nancy joined TIME as a part time fact-checker in the International section in 1985. In 1988, she became a writer. She has published more than 175 cover stories, including one on the September 11th attacks. This issue won a National Magazine Award 2002. The Chicago Tribune called her one of the top ten magazine writers in America in 2003. Her articles can be found in the Princeton Anthology of Writing and Best American Crime Writing 2004. Her appearances on television and radio talk shows include the Today Show, Good Morning America and Charlie Rose. She is also a regular guest essayist on The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. She has given numerous lectures on the American presidency at various venues, including the Aspen Institute and the Dallas World Affairs Club, Commonwealth Club, and National Archives.
