Kabeer is an author of many books and journal publications. Reversed Realities, Gender Hierarchies and Development Thought, Vero 1994, and The Power to Choose, Bangladeshi Women and Labour Market Choices in London and Dhaka (Verso 2000), are two of her books. She co-authored three papers with UNRISD on the programme Social Effects of Globalization. They were Gender and Demographic Transition and the Economics of Families: A Population Policy for Human-Centred Development 1996, The Conditions and Consequences of Choice in 1999, and Leaving the Rice Fields, but not the Countryside: Gender and Livelihood Diversification. She co-edited the Routledge/UNRISD book Global Perspectives on Gender Equality. Reversing the Gaze for UNRISD’s programme Gender and Development. Kabeer was the lead author on The World Survey on Women and Development, which she co-edited with the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW). She co-edited a Routledge/UNRISD volume entitled “Social Protection as Development Policy: Asian Perspectives” for UNRISD’s programme Social Policy and Development in 2010.

Between 2004-2005, Kabeer was the Kerstin Hessegren Professor at University of Gothenburg in Sweden and Senior Sabaticant with the International Development Research Centre Regional Office for South Asia in 2005-2006. She was also a senior researcher fellow at the Department for International Development in the UK, 2009-2010. She is still an emeritus fellow of the Institute of Development Studies in Sussex.
