In 2002, she was a star when she won two 200 m gold medals at the European Indoor Championships as well as the European Athletics Championships. She won the World Indoor title the following year and won a bronze medal at 2003 World Championships in Athletics.
Hurtis was fifth in the 60m race at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Her season’s best time of 7.17 seconds was achieved after the 200m was removed from the World Indoor program. She did not qualify for the semi-finals in the 200 m at the 2004 Olympics. Athens, Greece: She won bronze in the relay 4 x 100 m.
Hurtis-Houairi represented France at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She competed at the 4×100 metres relay together with Myriam Soumaré, Lina Jacques- Sebastien and Carima Louami. In their first round heat they did not finish and were eliminated due to a mistake with the baton exchange.
A number of injuries to her hamstring interrupted her career in 2009 and 2010, but she returned to the track in May 2010 and ran the 400 metres in 53.65 seconds. Encouraged by her quick performance, given that she had not attempted distance competitively since 1998, she did not rule out a switch to the longer distance. However, she said her main focus remained the 200 m.
In 2003, she continued her strong form and set a French indoor record in the 200 m at 2003 IAAF World Indoor Championships. She went on to win the silver medal. She finished fourth at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics. However, Kelly White, the original winner of the 200 m in Athletics, was stripped her medal. Hurtis was awarded the bronze medal. Anastasiya Kapacchinskaya was also banned for using steroids six months later. Hurtis won her second medal by winning the relay with Sylviane Feliz, Christine Arron, and Patricia Girard. She won the 200 m gold at the 2003 IAAF World Athletics Final and was fifth in the 100m.

She won the 200m gold medal at the 1998 IAAF World Junior Championships, Annecy, France. At age 20, she made her senior international appearance at the 1999 World Championships in Athletics. She ran a personal best 22.31 seconds in qualifiers and finished fifth in 200 m semi-finals. She was part of the women’s relay team for 4x100m and won a silver medal with Frederique Bangue and Sylviane Felix. Hurtis made her Olympic debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She reached the semi-finals again, this time in seventh place. Hurtis finished fifth at the 2001 IAAF World Indoor Championships. This was her first global final. Hurtis’ 2002 season was a major step in her career, starting with the European Indoor Championships gold medal. In the 100m, she ran a personal best of 10.96 seconds. This made her joint second fastest French woman in the distance, with Marie-Jose Perec. She was the European Champion in 200m at the 2002 European Athletics Championships. Her season-best time of 22.43 seconds saw her win. In addition, she won a second gold medal with France in the 4×100 meters relay team. She finished the year fourth in the 100 m at 2002 IAAF Grand Prix Final, and won the silver medal for the 2002 IAAF World Cup 200 m behind Debbie Ferguson.
Her form faltered over the next few years and she failed to get past the quarter-final stage at the 2004 Olympic Games, although she won Olympic bronze in the relay. She failed to retain her European title at the 2006 European Athletics Championships and was knocked out at the quarter-finals of the 2007 World Championships. She missed out on the 200 m final at the 2008 Summer Olympics by one place. She is the French indoor record holder over 200 m.
