Andrew Harvey, a writer and former follower of Mother Meera, wrote The Sun at Midnight after separating. Harvey made accusations of Meera of homophobia in the book, saying that Mother Meera was against Harvey’s marriage to another woman. Harvey first praised Meera as an avatar in Hidden Journey, his first book about her. He also attributed his claimed enlightenment and praise to her. Harvey’s claim of homophobia is not true. Harvey’s ex-love Mark Matousek (1997) said that Harvey was homophobic. We were served breakfast together at her house, for God’s sake.

Reddy took Mother Meera to the Sri Aurobindo Shram in Puducherry (India) in 1974. She met Westerners there and began to give Darshan. However, she is not currently associated with Sri Aurobindo. She was invited to Canada by her first devotees in 1979, where she returned several times. Reddy’s health began to decline.

1981 was her first trip to West Germany. Adilakshmi and Reddy were her closest companions. She settled down in West Germany a year later. In 1982, she married a German. Reddy, who died in 1985, was buried at the Dornburg-Thalheim cemetery, Hesse. She has been giving Darshan for many years at Schloss Schaumburg, Balduinstein (a small German town) – literally seeing, but mainly in a spiritual context. In the 1990s, she gave Darshan at a Thalheim house, about 5km northwest of Hadamar, Germany. She also regularly visits the United States (see links below).

Mother Meera receives thousands of visitors of all religions for darshan which she conducts in total silence. Her darshan consists of a ritual, where she will touch a person’s head, and then look into their eyes. During this process, she reportedly ‘unties knots’ in the person’s subtle system and permeates them with light. She doesn’t charge any money for doing so and she will not give lectures. Mother Meera’s reported task on Earth was in calling down a dynamic light-force from the Supreme (Paramatman – the supreme Self) in collaboration with other saints and divine beings, as she says, making spiritual progress on earth easier.
