After leading the USC Trojans scoring team with 65 goals, van Norman was awarded All-America in her freshman season 2003. In five matches, she scored at least three goals, including three against UC Berkeley and three against UCLA. Van Norman, a sophomore in 2004, was second on the team with 58 goals. This helped her team win the NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championship. She was the third USC women’s polo player to win the Peter J. Cutino Award, the national’s best collegiate women’s player. The award was presented by legendary Cal coach Pete Cutino who died in September 2004. Van Norman scored 40 goals in her junior year 2005 to be third on the team. USC finished her last season with a 27-3 season record. Van Norman scored six goals in three tournament matches, but that was not enough. With 5:15 remaining in the final match, she was ejected for the third time and sat on the bench, as UCLA won 9-8.
Van Norman was a U.S. citizen. Junior National Team won gold at 2005 FINA Junior world Championships, and silver at 2003 FINA Junior world Championships. She was also a member of the 2002 Pan-American Games champion team. Van Norman was a member the U.S. National Team, which won silver in the 2005 FINA Water Polo Championships.
