Morgan met Todd Solondz during an internship at NYU in 1994. Solondz hired Morgan to join the crew for his film, Welcome to the Dollhouse. He promoted Morgan from assistant production director to second assistant director. Freeman was able to meet Brendan Sexton III, who would become the star of Hurricane Streets, at Sundance Film Festival 1996 Grand Jury Prize Dramatic.

His article “Violence and arson continue to L.A.” which he wrote while working at the Daily Nexus won the 1993 Collegiate Gold Circle Award by Columbia Scholastic Press Association for news writing. It also placed third in the California Intercollegiate Press Award. In 1992, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. in film studies.
Freeman submitted his thesis to the Sundance Film Festival, where it became the first film to win three major honors at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival: Audience Award Dramatic, Directing Award Dramatic, Excellence in Cinematography Award Dramatic. The film was bought by MGM at Sundance.
