Kaltenborn returned to motorsport in February 2018 with the creation of KDC Racing. The team made its racing debut at the ADAC Formula 4 and Italian championships. KDC is a 50-50 venture between Kaltenborn – the ‘K” in the team’s name – and Emily di Comberti (French-Monegasque businesswoman). Her son Aaron participated in the BRDC British Form 3 Championship in 2017.
The Sauber F1 Team announced that Kaltenborn would be leaving Sauber Group as of 22 June 2017. This was via a statement posted on their website.

Kaltenborn was born in Dehradun, India. When she was a little girl, her family immigrated to Vienna. She then obtained Austrian citizenship. She studied Law from 1990 to 1995 at the University of Vienna. In 1996, she completed a master’s in International Business Law at London School of Economics. While still a student at Vienna’s University of Law, she worked for UN Industrial Development Organization (UN Commission for International Trade Law) and then returned to Vienna with Wolf & Theis. Finally, she worked for Fritz Kaiser Group from 1998-1999.
Kaiser, along with Peter Sauber, founder and principal of Sauber Formula One and Dietrich Mateschitz, were co-owners of the team. Kaltenborn was hired to manage the corporate and legal affairs of the team. Kaiser had sold his shares by 2000 but Kaltenborn was still the head of the legal department. She has been a member the management board since 2001. In 2010, she was named CEO of Sauber Motorsport AG, following the team’s independence following the withdrawal from former partner BMW. Under Michele Mouton, she is also involved with the FIA’s Commission for Women and Motorsport. Peter Sauber made Kaltenborn a part-owner by transferring a third the Sauber team. He retired in October from the front-line management of his team and gave her the position of team principal.
