Mark Ramos Nishita, born February 10, 1960, also known as Money Mark, was an American producer and musician. He is best known for his collaborations between the Beastie Boys (1992 to 2011).

Money Mark signed to Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records label in September 2006. In February 2007, he released Brand New by Tomorrow, his first album on Brushfire. He opened for Gnarls barkley at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre in late 2006. Money Mark and The Woodrow Jackson Orchestra recorded a cover of Love Unlimited Orchestra’s “Love’s Theme”, for Engine Room Recordings’ compilation album Guilt by Association in 2007. Money Mark wrote original music for 2008’s documentary, Beautiful Losers. Mark played all instruments in HBO’s premiere documentary series, “Family Bond’s”, directed by Steve Santor.

Money Mark, working with Mike McCready and Stefan Lessard, contributed to many of the tracks used in the soundtrack to the 2011 film Horrible Bosses.

In 2011, he contributed the Mario C. Remix of “Tropicaliá” with Beck and Seu Jorge, and played Hammond B-3 organ on “Look Around” from the Red Hot Chili Peppers album I’m With You, as well as a version of the song “Tropical Affair” with Thalma de Freitas and João Parahyba for Red Hot Organization’s most recent charitable album “Red Hot+Rio 2.” The album is a follow-up to the 1996 “Red Hot + Rio.” Proceeds from the sales will be donated to raise awareness and money to fight AIDS/HIV and related health and social issues.

Money Mark was the one who created the key phrase that opens and supports “Where It’s At”, Beck’s 1996 album Odelay. He was a keyboard player on the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Quintet’s tour in support of their self-titled record. Since then, he has been a full member of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Quintet. He appeared on the live EP called Please Heat This Eventually with Damo Suzuki, as well as several other albums. His first full-length collaboration was The Apocalypse Inside of an Orange, the Quintet’s second LP. Money Mark contributed the song “Use your Head (Use A Sua Cabeca),” to the 1996 AIDS benefit album Red Hot + Rio, which was produced by the Red Hot Organization. Red Hot’s Silencio=Muerte Red Hot + Latin, and Red Hot + Rhapsody were also songs he contributed to. Mark played all the instruments in HBO’s 2004 documentary series “Family Bond’s”, directed by Steve Santor. Mark also composed original music and scored cues for “Family Bond’s,” “Fun With Dick and Jane,” and” The Devil Wears Prada” in the same year.

Through Mario Caldato Jr., Mark was introduced to the Beastie Boys by Mario Caldato Jr. who asked Mark to fix the wooden gate that led to the property where they were staying while recording Paul’s Boutique. He was a key collaborator in their building of a studio. He performed, wrote, and collaborated in every Beastie Boys album, from 1992’s Check Your Head to 2011’s Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. Mark is the co-author of The Mix-Up, which won the Grammy Award.

His 1995 debut album Mark’s Keyboard Repair was a collection of pop-funk songs that were keyboard driven. It combined elements of rock music with pop with soul, hip hop, and funk. The LP received positive reviews. His 2001 follow-up Change is Coming, which featured a tropical and danceable disco/funk sound, also received good reviews.
