He last played as a defensive midfielder in the Johor Darul Ta’zim II Malaysia Premier League. He is able to take long-range shots and has power towards the goal. He is a top-ranked defensive midfielder in Malaysia thanks to his high work rate, timing and stamina.

Shakir continued his career in 2006 when he played in the Malaysia Super League for MPPJ FC. This club was based in Selangor.

Shakir was born in Kota Bharu (Kelantan). He is the eighth of eleven siblings. He was only interested in football when he was a child. He was selected to represent Kelantan in the MSSM Championship Football under 12 years in 1998. Shakir’s life journey continues when he was selected to the Sekolah Sukan Tengku Mahkota Ismail, Kota Tinggi. Shakir represented Malaysia Sports School (combined sports schools) at the Nike Cup under 15 years in Bangkok 2001. He then continued his studies in Bukit Jalil Sports School SSBJ a year later.

At the age of 18, Shakir began his career at Kelantan President Cup Team. He joined MPPJ FC in 2005 at the age of 18. After a season, he left the club due to financial difficulties. He signed a contract with MyTeam, which participated in the Malaysia Super League 2006. The club was forced to withdraw from the Malaysia Super League in 2009 due to financial difficulties. Kelantan’s coach Peter James Butler saw his potential as a great midfielder and brought him in to the team. In 2010, he was officially joined Kelantan. He was also part of Kelantan’s Malaysia Cup winning team in 2010, 2011 Malaysia Super League champions and 2012 Malaysia FA Cup winner.

On 9 December 2010, Shakir had married with Nurul Fatiha Abd Hamid, former national artistic gymnastics athletes who working as television presenter for RTM. They have a son after two years of their marriage.
