Mohd Puad Zarkashi, a Malaysian politician who was born 7 July 1957, is a member of the United Malays National Organisation(UMNO) which is a key component party in the Barisan Nasional coalition. From 2008 to 2013, he was the Member for the Batu Pahat Constituency in Johor.
Puad declared in September 2012 that homosexuals can be identified by a variety of means, including “V-Neck” and “sleeveless clothing”, as well as the person’s preference for “tight or light-colored clothing”. These characteristics would help parents identify if their son is homosexual. He also stated that they were “symptoms”, which would enable them to discipline their son into changing “like it’s an illness which can be treated”. This stance was also supported by Malaysia’s Education Ministry, as they believe this could affect one’s ability learn.
Puad was appointed as a Deputy Education minister when Najib Razak succeeded Abdullah in April 2009.

After the 2008 election results, UMNO had failed to perform in 2008, Puad demanded the resignation of the then Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Puad was elected to the seat that was previously held by Junaidy Abdul Wahab, UMNO. He was a senator in the past. After being defeated by MohdIdris Jusi, of the People’s Justice Party(PKR), Puad was elected to one term as a Member of Parliament. Despite his defeat, he was reelected to UMNO’s 25-member Supreme Council later that year. UMNO dropped Puad as a candidate in the 2018 general elections.
Puad was appointed the Special Affairs Department (JASA) director-general in March 2015 but he quit on 25 April 2018 in protest for not being picked as a BN candidate for the 2018 general election. JASA was somehow disbanded months later by the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) government after the downfall of the BN in the 2018 election.
