The Swedish third-tier side IFK Varnamo, coached by former Sweden midfielder Jonas Thern, announced that they had signed Bangura on a loan deal for the upcoming season. Bangura’s immediate impact at the Smaland club was evident. By the end of half the season, Bangura had scored 12 goals across 13 league games. Varnamo became one of the top division sides.

In the 2011 season, Bangura formed a striking partnership with new signing Teteh Bangura and together, they formed a line of attack in number of games. AIK announced on 19 July 2010 that they had signed Bangura to a 3-1/2-year contract, tying him to them until 2013. Bangura was also interested in AIK, which was clearly stated. Orebro SK was also interested, but they decided to pass because Bangura had been injured. AIK on the other hand had spent a lot of time scouting Bangura and was ready to strike a deal quickly. Bangura made his Allsvenskan debut in AIK’s match against Malmo FF away on 24 July 2010. He was substituted in the 74th minute. Bangura was part of the starting eleven for AIK’s next fixture against Rosenborg BK, the UEFA Champions League qualifier. Although AIK lost the match 1-0, Bangura was praised for his performance. Bangura scored the first two goals of AIK’s 2-1 win over IF Brommapojkarna on August 8, 2010. Al Ahly, an Egyptian side, made a bid for Bangura’s signature two months after he signed. The season ended in 11th place for AIK, and Bangura was eleventh overall. He finished the first half of his first season at the club with six goals in thirteen appearances.
