Stetter was a pitcher at Indiana State University. He played college summer baseball for the Cotuit Kettleers, Cape Cod Baseball League in 2001 and 2002. In the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft, he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 16th round (459th overall). Stetter was the Sycamores’ leader in both strikeouts (and innings pitched) in three seasons, and once in wins. Stetter finished college fifth in innings pitched and strikeouts. He also holds the record for Sycamore baseball’s most hit batters with 32.
Stetter won his first major league victory against the San Diego Padres on September 29, 2007. He also defeated Joe Thatcher, his former minor league and college rival.
On June 17, 2009, Stetter set a record by retiring his 10th and 11th consecutive batters by strikeout. As of June 25, 2009, the last 15 batters Stetter has retired have been by strikeout followed by a fly out to Corey Hart ending the streak.
